Chart Notes:

  • Soulful sextet Fitz & The Tantrums are pacing themselves among the top of the pops, but this week, they strut their stuff up another two notches to #2 with “The Walker”. These six know the runner-up spot well: last year, “Out Of My League” landed in that slot for five consecutive weeks, just missing #1. Their shoes are pretty weathered having been on the charts for 15 weeks now, but maybe, just maybe, they can take a ride in stride.
  • For what could be the first time ever, four songs tie for the Biggest Mover of the Week. Talk about sharing the wealth. At #11, moving up seven, is “Sleeping With A Friend” by Neon Trees. In three short weeks, it’s climbed 28 spots; is a #1 record in the cards? Perhaps. It will at least go top ten, which also seems to be the case for “Coming Of Age”, up 28-21 for Foster The People.
  • Also rising seven positions this week are two of last week’s debuts: “Settle Down” by The 1975 (37-30) and “Midnight Memories” by One Direction (40-33). Both British bands climbed to the top with each of their respective previous singles: “Girls” for the former and “Story Of My Life” for the latter.
  • Entering at #39 is the third top 40 single from singer-songwriter Eric Hutchinson with “Tell The World”. His latest album, Pure Fiction (his first for Kobalt), is due on April 8. In 2008, he made his debut with “Rock & Roll”, which spent two weeks at #14, and four years later, “Watching You Watch Him” watched over the #20 spot for a frame.
  • Also debuting this week is the first chart hit for Canadian singer Royal Wood, who drops into countdown at #40 with “Forever And Ever”. It’s currently gaining airplay up north and will be featured in an advertisement during the Super Bowl. Look out, U.S., you’re in for a great surprise and a tune you’ll be clapping along to.
