Chart Notes:

  • They’ve sold millions of records and toured around the world, but the one thing One Direction hasn’t done is score a #1 on my personal chart — that is, until this week. “Story Of My Life” becomes the group’s first chart-topper, advancing from 3-1. Their previous high was #2, which “Live While We’re Young” rose to last year. This is the quintet’s ninth top 40 hit since they first charted in 2011.
  • It’s a man’s man’s man’s countdown: for yet another frame, all ten acts in the top ten this week are male. That will change next week, however, with the surging Christina Perri up 22-12 with “Human”, which holds a rare distinction of being the Biggest Mover for three weeks in a row. At least one guy looks to get in on the action as well, Gary Barlow, who rises 14-11 this week with “Let Me Go”.
  • The only debut on this week’s chart is from Boston-based duo Karmin. Their fifth top 40 hit is “I Want It All”, the second single from their forthcoming album Pulses. Last year, the two got as high as #7 with “Brokenhearted”.
  • Look out for my Top 100 of 2013 beginning later today and continuing through December 24. It’s sure to be fun, so come back and visit as the new sections go up!
