Chart Notes:

  • Passenger‘s “Let Her Go” marks the sixth song to hit #1 during my chart year, which runs from the beginning of December until the end of November. At this point last year, there were nine number-one songs. Passenger is the first act to score a #1 single on my chart with their debut chart song since Grouplove spent two weeks at the top last July with “Tongue Tied”. He is the second act originally from the United Kingdom to go to the top following Olly Murs back in January.
  • “Out Of My League” by Fitz & The Tantrums finds itself stuck at #2 for a fifth consecutive week. The longest run at #2 is held by Andy Grammer‘s debut single, “Keep Your Head Up”, which spent eight weeks there and never reached the top. Looks like “League” could start falling as early as next week.
  • Daft Punk and Pharrell Williams have an international hit on their hands with “Get Lucky” and it rises 27-18 on the chart this week, earning it the title of Biggest Mover for the second week in a row. Prior to this single, both acts hadn’t reached my chart in over a decade. For the duo, it was “One More Time” that last gave them a hit in 2001, and for Williams, it was his appearance on the remix of “Boys” by Britney Spears that last led him into my chart back in 2002.
  • This week’s Highest Debut belongs to Maroon 5, who enter at #39 with “Love Somebody”. It’s the fourth single to make my chart from their album Overexposed. “Love” is the seventeenth single for the band to enter my top 40 since climbing to #2 with “Harder To Breathe” in 2003.
  • Also debuting in the top 40 this week is a collaboration between Dutch DJ Armin Van Buuren and Canadian singer Trevor Guthrie, “This Is What It Feels Like”. This is Van Buuren’s first time making my survey; Guthrie previously charted with the trio soulDecision, who are best known for their 2000 smash “Faded”. They last charted in 2005 with “Kiss The Walls”.
